Clueless Style

The 1995 hit comedy film, Clueless is a very very modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Emma.” Alicia Silverstone played the stylish superficial teenager (Cher Horrowitz) who was obsessed with fashion and lived in the affluent suburbs of Beverley Hills. The film showcased a number of savvy outfits and is still a cult movie on television. Website, wornfashionjournal.com have compiled a video of Cher Horrowitz’s outfits.

The Bee Gees – Vogue Fashion Awards 1996

Sunday the 20th of May 2012 marked a sad day for British music. Bee Gee singer, Robin Gibb passed away, aged 62 after his battle with cancer. The Bee Gee brothers, were an exceptional trio from Manchester that set off a musical hype in 1977. Maurice (Robin’s twin) passed away in 2003. The band are remembered for their high pitched soulful voices, not forgetting their tight shirts and glamourous trousers. Some might say they kick started a metrosexual fashion revolution in the 70′s. Their song “Stayin alive” was the soundtrack to film, “Saturday Night Fever.” See John Travolta embody the perfect music and fashion era in the opening credits to “Saturday Night Fever.”

Also watch The brothers perform their hit at the Vogue Fashion Awards in 1996.

Oliver Peoples Campaign – Zooey Deschanel

So we thought we would share a blast from the advertising past ..well 2009 is as far as we’re going. The Oliver Peoples eyewear collection was promoted through a kitsch Bonnie and Clyde style sketch. Casting director, Autumn De Wilde selected quirky actress Zooey Deschanel and musician Matt Costa to star in his 3 minute clip. Deschanel is currently working on hit TV show, “New Girl.”

Music is rightfully chosen from Deschanel’s indie duo band, “She & Him.”

Fashion Graduate Film – Jessica Devos

There is so much talent in the UK art and design schools. We have searched far and wide around the UK to find a fashion film with a great soundtrack. A video that caught the attention of our ears and eyes was one created by Nottingham fashion design student, Jessica Devos. This video is minimalistic, the clothes are quirky and wearable – so much more appealing than some extravagant gaga-esque exhibit. We can’t wait to see the rest of the collection.

Watch the preview of her SS/13 collection. One to watch for 2013.

Singer/songwriter Marika Hackman also managed to capture the attention of Burberry who offered her the opportunity to be the face and voice of their campaign. The Brighton girl was enlisted as their latest eyewear model. Her friend Cara Delevingne (who also models for Burberry) passed on Marika’s demo to the brand.
