Gosia Baczynska SS15 Collection | Paris

Rose Frith heads to the Polish embassy in Paris to see what’s predicted for our SS15 wardrobes…..

Polish designer Gosia Baczynska’s Ready to Wear SS15 collection, presented this Thursday at the Polish embassy in Paris, is both immensely intricate and highly spirited.

The decadently detailed collection, which features structured lace pieces and contemporary reworkings of 1920s-influenced silk designs, is mainly composed of a limited but striking pallet of black, muted pink, white and gold. Every detail, from the resplendent deep red and gold setting to the almost exclusively blonde, lightly waved hair of the Polish models, seemed expressly selected to compliment and accentuate the exquisite collection.

A harmony between the aesthetic and the intellectual was equally omnipresent.
The influence of Henry Miller’s ‘Commandments’ (1932)- “Don’t be nervous. Work calmly, joyously, recklessly on whatever is in hand…” was evident.
The ‘Commandments’ themselves featured heavily as they were printed on the runway, listed in full in the programme and handwritten on the models’ bodies by the designer herself.
The “joyous… human… pleasure” prescribed by Miller was also perceptible in the multicoloured pastel makeup painted on the models’ legs and in the eclectic, up-beat soundtrack, which concluded with the euphoric electro track ‘Beautiful Objects’ by American duo ‘Glass Candy’.
The show encapsulated the glamour and intensity of Paris Fashion Week, while Gosia Baczynska combined tradition with great vivacity in her dynamic collection, demonstrating her consummate skill as a pre-eminent Polish designer.
