Cash+David Bones | Track of the day

This newie ‘Bones’ completes something of a triptych from Tim Ross (Cash) and Liz Lawrence (David) – it’s a touch more direct & vulnerable than it’s predecessors (fittingly so, as the pair now step out from behind their aliases), though still refracted through C+D’s dizzying prism of influences, backed by the bass-heavy synths which have sort of become their trademark…..

C+D originally met whilst Ross was producing Lawrence’s folk-influenced debut for EMI, when Liz was just 19. Prior to forming Cash+David, they went their separate ways for a period, with Ross working with the likes of The Bloody Beetroots and Lawrence joining Bombay Bicycle Club’s live band (predecessors include Rae Morris & Lucy Rose) on their huge world tour for the Mercury-nominated So Long, See You Tomorrow.

Cash+David’s meticulous approach extends far beyond the music they are producing, with Lawrence’s art school education dictating a precise and detailed aesthetic, reflected in everything from their interlocking logo to the arrestingly, interlinked artwork of the singles, even the ambiguous couples who appear in their videos (directed by James Willis, also behind Disclosure and Katy B visuals). “There was a real frisson between Tim and I when we met,” reflects Lawrence, “We’re integral to each other, and that’s reflected in the name, the logo, the label, everything we do. It enables movement, and space.”
