The Beatles & Bloomingdales

Forget One Direction fandom, the best kind of music and fashion relationship would be something iconic, like The Beatles. Today we heard that Bloomingdales have snapped up the opportunity to celebrate Brit pop and the 50th anniversary of Beatlemania. The American department store plans to unite British fashion brands; Paul Smith, Burberry and Alexander McQueen. What a way to create a tribute to Beatlemania, we hope we get an invite to this one !

Exclusive Beatles merchandise has been designed by Ted Baker, Thomas Pink, Ben Sherman, Crombie and Smart Turnout. The Beatles released I Wanna Hold Your Hand in the US in December 1963. Bloomingdale’s said: ‘This is an ode to the 50th anniversary of the Beatles in the US and part of a wider programme celebrating British style.’

Something else to get excited about is a series called ‘Talk is Chic’ which will feature interviews with designer Sir Paul Smith and Burberry’s chief creative officer Christopher Bailey discussing the Beatles’ impact on fashion. This looks bloomin marvelous.

AVICII Ralph Lauren

We’re blown away by Ralph Lauren’s denim remix. One of the first sounds to the festival season is this collaboration and sensational fashion and music video from Avicii. ‘Silhouettes’ by the respective DJ sets the soundtrack for the young and energetic denim wearers of Ralph’s ‘Denim and Supply’ micro brand. Partying hard and staying up all night is the twenty something market that Ralph Lauren are delving into. Perfect timing from the world’s best DJ. Perhaps Tiesto started this DJ fashion trend with his collab with American brand GUESS. Anyhow, AVICII, we thank and praise you for your party beats and sexy vocals ! “Press play fast forward.” The video begins with a narrative of Avicci’s production techniques and like he says, “start with the melody first.” the vocals and beat then escalate and increase as the night unfolds.

Daft Punk For Yves Saint Laurent

DAFT PUNK’S COLLABORATION WITH THE SAINT LAURENT MUSIC PROJECT STARTED IN OCTOBER 2012. THEY WERE COMMISSIONED TO CREATE THE SOUNDTRACK OF THE INAUGURAL SAINT LAURENT FASHION SHOW.

Rita Ora For Superga

Italian shoes are the finest in the world, but you don’t have to book a flight to hunt them down. Superga are a great fashion trainer, here they are just in time for summer. Ever since American brand Keds(r) used Mischa Barton to sell a retro pump, comfortable shoes seem to have become more fashionably acceptable. Superga use good old British beauties to front and ‘feet’ their campaigns. It must be something about these leggy twenty somethings that sell the shoes to the public. Legs, feet and faces from Alexa Chung and Mischa Barton (for keds) have set these canvas pumps running out of stores and down city streets. The latest advertisement is a fashion and music endorsement, our favourite bloody type of promotion. This time we see Rita Ora lounging around her music studio, chilling in a pair of Supergas. It’s about time we saw Rita doing her bit for fashion, after all she treks to fashion weeks to support her bessie Cara Delevingne. Can we have some fashion spotlights on Rita as she takes the mic for centre stage ?! In the famous and beautiful words of legend Amy Winehouse, “Dust off your f*** me pumps.”

Beyonce for H&M

She just announced her UK tour last month, had a baby last year, performed at the Super Bowl for 2013, this woman is well and truly back on the scene. We’ve seen Rihanna and Rita collaborate with the likes of Superga and River Island but now H&M rain on everyone’s parade with the top face and voice of music. The campaign is yet to release a video so we thought we’d soundtrack the tropical island photo with a clip from Destiny’s performance earlier this year……..

Lana Del Rey is creating her own legacy. The musician has attempted to re-create scenes of JFK’s presidency. The historic cinematic video shows Rey singing Happy Birthday Mr President to ASAP Rocky. Scenes of family bonding in the Hampton’s show Rey dressed like Jacqueline Kennedy. This video will definitely win music awards.

Mitch Winehouse Slams John Paul’s Gaultier’s latest fashion show

Mitch Winehouse condemned the show “in bad taste” after models were dressed in the star’s trademark look. “We’re still grieving for her loss, and we’ve had a difficult week with the six month anniversary of Amy’s death. To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on.”

“We’re proud of her influence on fashion but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste,” he added.

    interesting post on Amy Winehouse. She had such an original look, I loved to see what she was wearing, and I am torn about Gaultier’s obvious borrowing of Amy’s recognizable personal style. On the one hand imitation is flattery, and it is cool to see the chain of influence cycling between music, fashion, film etc, but I wonder if this is either too soon, or too late. Is it a nice tribute to an influential musician, or is it another exploitative capitalization on an artist’s death? Interesting question to ponder.
    Anyways, thanks for stopping by my blog, and I’ve enjoyed my visit here. I’ll check back in again soon!

    Gaultier’s use of Amy’s iconic image isn’t necessarily a bad thing in itself. It was obviously intended as a tribute to the artist. The fact that it has touched some still raw emotions within Amy’s close family could be because he perhaps attempted to do this too soon, but I do think it’s going a little too far to accuse the house of capitalising on the artist’s death?? Perhaps insensitive, but certainly not exploitative… Good question!
